Forex Market Hours and Trading Sessions

The foreign exchange market runs 24 hours a day from Sunday evening to Friday evening (UTC). Liquidity is not constant: it peaks when the London and New York sessions overlap.

The four major sessions

Sydney opens the week, followed by Tokyo, London and New York. London is the largest session and handles the biggest share of daily turnover. The London–New York overlap (typically 13:00–16:00 UTC) is the most liquid window, when spreads on EUR/USD and GBP/USD are tightest.

Currency pairs move most during their home session: USD pairs in New York, EUR pairs in London, JPY and AUD pairs in Tokyo and Sydney.
