Spot gold, silver, platinum and palladium prices in US dollars per troy ounce, updated through the trading day. Metals are priced in dollars, so the dollar's strength directly affects the price in other currencies.
Gold is a traditional hedge against inflation and currency weakness. When the US dollar falls, gold priced in dollars usually rises, and local gold prices in Pakistan, India and the Gulf react to both the dollar move and the local exchange rate.
Because of this, metals and FX are connected: a 1% move in USD/PKR changes the rupee price of gold by roughly 1%, even if the dollar gold price is unchanged.
Prices are quoted per troy ounce in US dollars. One troy ounce is 31.1035 grams.
Local rates add import duty, making charges and the local currency conversion.
