How to Compare International Money Transfer Costs

Every transfer has two costs: a fixed fee and the margin hidden inside the exchange rate. Comparing only the fee usually gives the wrong answer — the rate margin is often several times larger.

The three parts of a transfer price

1) The mid-market rate — the real exchange rate. 2) The provider's margin — usually 0.3% to 3%, hidden in the rate they quote. 3) The fixed fee — from zero to a flat charge depending on the corridor and payment method.

To compare fairly, ignore the advertised fee and check the final amount the recipient receives for the same send amount on the same day.

Which corridor are you sending to?

Costs vary sharply by corridor. UK-to-Pakistan, UAE-to-India and US-to-Mexico are high-volume routes with competitive pricing, while smaller corridors carry wider margins. Bank transfers are usually cheapest for large amounts; cash pickup is fastest for recipients without a bank account.

Frequently asked questions

Is a zero-fee transfer really free?

No. A zero fee usually means a wider exchange-rate margin. Compare the recipient's final amount, not the fee.

Why is the rate different from Google?

Google and GlobalFxcc show the mid-market rate. Providers quote a retail rate that includes their margin.

How long do transfers take?

Same-day to 3 business days depending on the corridor, payment method and compliance checks.
