SAR and AED to PKR: Gulf Salary Conversion Explained

Remittance · October 30, 2026 · 9 min read · By GlobalFxcc Data Desk · Data checked 1 November 2026

Short answer: because the riyal and dirham are pegged to the US dollar, your SAR/AED to PKR rate moves almost entirely with USD/PKR — not with Saudi or UAE news. That makes timing simple: watch the rupee, not the Gulf.

How much is 1 SAR and 1 AED in PKR?

Live numbers are on SAR to PKR and AED to PKR, both with 30-day history. As a mental anchor: 1 SAR is roughly a quarter of a dollar (0.2667) and 1 AED about 0.2723, so their PKR values move together, one slightly above the other.

Why do Gulf currencies barely move against the dollar?

CurrencyRegimeLong-standing peg
Saudi riyal (SAR)Hard peg to USD3.75 since 1986
UAE dirham (AED)Hard peg to USD3.6725 since 1997
Qatari riyal (QAR)Hard peg to USD3.64
Bahraini dinar (BHD)Peg to USD0.376
Omani rial (OMR)Peg to USD0.3845
Kuwaiti dinar (KWD)Basket pegMoves slightly with the basket

Because of these pegs, SAR/USD and AED/USD trade in a razor-thin band. All the movement you see in SAR/PKR and AED/PKR comes from the rupee side. Kuwait is the exception — its dinar is pegged to a currency basket, so it drifts a little more. See KWD to PKR and QAR to PKR.

What does a Gulf remittance actually cost?

Worked example at a mid-market rate of 1 SAR = 73.81 PKR and 1 AED = 75.42 PKR (our snapshot when this guide was updated):

SentMid-market PKRAt 1% marginAt 2% marginDifference

SAR 2,000147,620146,144144,6682,952 PKR
SAR 5,000369,050365,360361,6697,381 PKR

AED 5,000377,100373,329369,5587,542 PKR

Commission-free counters are common in the Gulf, which is precisely why the margin matters more than the fee. A 1% difference on AED 5,000 is about 3,800 PKR a month — roughly a week of groceries.

Why are end-of-month transfers slower?

Salary disbursement in Saudi Arabia and the UAE clusters in the last few days of each month, and most of it is remitted within 72 hours. Exchange-house apps throttle, queues form and some providers widen rates. Sending on the 25th–27th, or early in the month, is usually faster and often priced slightly better.

Do I need an Emirates ID or iqama to send?

Yes for formal channels. UAE exchange houses require Emirates ID plus your residence visa details; Saudi providers require iqama. Registration takes minutes and is one-time; it also anchors your transfer records, which matters if you ever need proof of funds for a visa application.

Cash, app or exchange house?

Whatever the channel, compute the implied rate: PKR received ÷ SAR or AED sent. Then compare it with the mid-market rate on SAR to PKR or AED to PKR. The maths method is in why zero-fee transfers are not free.

Does the rupee move enough to justify waiting?

In a calm month, USD/PKR might range 1%–2%. In a volatile one, 3%–5%. On a SAR 2,000 monthly transfer, a 2% improvement is about 2,950 PKR — worth timing, but not worth delaying an essential payment. Practical rule: never let a two-week wait cost you more than the potential gain, and never send large sums on the day of an economic calendar release you do not understand.
