How to Read a 30-Day Exchange Rate Chart (Practical Method)

Guides · October 20, 2026 · 8 min read · By GlobalFxcc Data Desk · Data checked 1 November 2026

Short answer: stop reading the daily headline rate. Compare today's rate with the 30-day high, low and average, then decide whether you are in the top, middle or bottom third of the recent range. That single habit is worth more than any forecast.

Four numbers you need, and nothing else

NumberWhat it tells youHow to use it
30-day highBest rate available recentlyThe ceiling you could have achieved
30-day lowWorst rate available recentlyThe floor; if you are near it, be cautious
30-day averageThe "normal" level this monthAbove average = good day to send
Range %(high − low) ÷ average × 100Tells you how much timing can even matter

Sample rows from a 30-day history table

This is the shape of the data on our pair pages — eight representative rows rather than all 30, using illustrative values for a stable month on a PKR corridor:

Date1 USD in PKRPosition in range
Day 1275.94Lower third
Day 5276.31Middle
Day 9276.88Upper middle
Day 13277.63High
Day 17277.21Upper middle
Day 21276.60Middle
Day 25276.29Lower middle
Day 30276.78Middle

Range here is roughly 277.63 − 276.29 = 1.34 PKR, or about 0.48% of the average. On USD 1,000 that is about 1,340 PKR of timing value. Worth knowing — but not worth delaying rent for a week.

Position beats prediction

Nobody knows tomorrow's rate. Position-based decisions are honest about that and still capture most of the available benefit.

Range width tells you where to spend your effort

Under 0.5%Pegged (SAR, AED, HKD)Fees and margin — timing is noise
0.5% – 2%Stable managed float (PKR, INR in calm months)Margin first, position second
2% – 5%Volatile or policy-driven (NGN, EGP, TRY)Position and channel both matter
